How much does scaffold cost?

This is a question our Chichester scaffolding company is often asked, and it is extremely difficult to give you an answer straight away without finding out a little more information on the types of platform or structure you may require. There is no building the same size plus there are so many different types of scaffolding structures that can be erected and none of them are ever priced the same.

“Mr Smith” requires our scaffolding erectors to put up scaffold to the front of his property to replace his soffits and facias and clear out his guttering. We would need to know the following information from “Mr Smith” to be able to provide him with an accurate quotation.

  • Property type (semi, detached, terrace).
  • Height (1,2,3 or 4 storey property).
  • Does the building sit on private land or does it require a pavement licence?
  • How many sides (in this case only the front).
  • Works taking place (scaffold to access soffits and facia boards).
  • What is the access like?
  • Property address.
  • How long you would need the scaffolding for (our standard hire period included in our quote is usually 4-6 weeks).
  • When you will need the scaffolds erected.

Once we have obtained all of this information we should be able to give you a price on the phone however for more complex structures like temporary roofs or new builds they may require us to visit the project location and take some extra details and measurements to ensure we give you the correct costings.

FAQ’S

Do I need permission to erect scaffolding?

You would only need to obtain permission or apply to the council when the scaffold structure we put up encroaches on a public pathway or highway; this is where a pavement licence will be needed, which we will apply for on your behalf. In some circumstances, scaffolds may need to be placed in neighbouring gardens, where it is recommended to ask your neighbour first for permission.

How long does it take to put scaffolding up?

This all depends on the type of structure our scaffolders are erecting. If it is a simple tower on the front of a house, it can take one to two hours; however, If the scaffolding is more extensive, for example, a temporary roof which is a structure that completely covers the roof area, then again, depending on its size, it can take several days or even weeks to complete.

Can a neighbour object to scaffolding?

Yes, your neighbour is within their rights to object to having part of the scaffolds framework in their garden or on their land. We will then be required to find an alternative way to put up the structure.

What do I do if I cannot reach a work area from my scaffolding?

Please let us know as soon as possible so we can return and alter the framework to suit your needs.

How long is scaffolding allowed to stay up?

There is no specific set timeframe, so it will depend on the length of time you need the structure. We offer a standard hire period of 4 weeks which is generally enough for most customers. However, if you find your project will take longer, please let us know, and we will agree on a rental period to suit your requirements. We have customers who have hired our scaffolds for 12 months plus.

Can anyone erect scaffolding?

No, only qualified scaffolders with their tickets should put up a scaffold. This is a very complex and dangerous job. If done incorrectly, it could have dire consequences, like the structure falling or collapsing or a user falling from height because of poorly erected scaffolding. Never try to put up any framework yourself; always seek a professional.

When do I pay for my scaffold?

Depending on what type of scaffolds we are erecting and the length of the hire period, we generally require full or partial payment once our scaffolders have put up the structure, which we will send you an invoice for.

What is our scaffolding hire period?

As standard, we include 4-6 weeks of hire with every quotation and are always happy to negotiate longer periods to suit your timescales. If you go over your period and wish to have an extension, in that case, we will charge you an extra weekly hire fee which is generally set at a percentage of the original job value. Our fees for this which are always agreed upon before we commence erecting your scaffolding structure, will usually be 5%-10% of our original price depending on the type of structure and additional hire period required.

Supplies:

We dont just erect scaffolds we also have scaffolding for sale including tube, towers and scaffold boards made from timber plus other surplus equipment and materials that we will happily sell to the general public. We have the below new or used items available to purchase so please get in touch with us if you would like to buy any of the products below and we will give you our prices plus our delivery charge.

The boards we sell come in the following different lengths, 8ft, 10ft and 13ft and are banded each end. They have a a standard width of 225mm and a thickness of 38mm, and all our boards have been manufactured to British standards BS2482. These boards are primarily used as the platform area of the framework our scaffolders erect however, these boards have some other uses at home and have been used for the following purposes around the house and in the garden by previous customers:

  • Raised beds
  • Planters
  • Garden furniture
  • Fencing
  • Decking
  • Bedframe
  • Shelves
  • Tabletops
  • Work tops
  • Picnic benches
  • Chairs
  • Flooring

The list is endless! If you have the time and the tools to make items out of wood then using these types of boards is highly recommended. We have a very big selection of new and reclaimed/used boards available.

We also have a large selection of tube to purchase and we sell these in the following size lengths: 5ft, 8ft, 10ft plus 13ft, 16ft and 21ft tube.

They are known in the industry as a type 4 tube which basically means they are 48mm in diameter. Each tube is very robust and heavy duty as they are made from galvanised steel which has been hot dipped in zinc to increase their longevity and prevent rusting. We use these tubes to build the framework of any type of scaffold structure we erect.

Each tube length has its own different purpose in the industry:

  • The 21ft tube can be used as the standards, handrails and ledgers.
  • The 5ft tube is usually for transoms and stop end handrails.
  • An 8ft long tube is ideal for bracing.
  • A 10ft tube is used by erectors of scaffolds for a sway brace.

However, you can buy new and used tube from our scaffolding Chichester company which you can use for many other general purposes including:

  • Washing line
  • Racks
  • Steel staircases
  • Flagpole
  • Bedframe
  • Shelves
  • Furniture
  • Framework for outdoor events
  • Ramps
  • Plus, much more.

Aluminium towers are slightly different to the traditional steel towers put up by our erectors. The moveable towers we sell are towers that are set on castors and are light enough to be moved around. You can purchase brand new access towers from us and have them delivered straight to site or your home. They come in a large variety of sizes from 1.8m long – single and double width towers up to a 2.5m long – single or double width tower. You can have them reach various heights to suit your requirements from a minimum of 1.2m to 11.2m.

These types of towers are very handy if you have internal painting or repair works to high ceilings or stairwells, external decoration works, need to install windows, guttering or for cutting hedges or trees where a ladder is no longer providing you with safe access. These towers come with a step by step guide on how to safely assemble them. They are a great piece of kit to invest in if you need to access hard to reach areas often.
